Create an AI Opportunity Map

Goal. Identify three HR processes to enhance with AI and make the case for each.

Steps.

  1. Brainstorm at least eight candidate use cases across recruiting, onboarding and engagement. Use your own organisation or Brightwater.
  2. Score each for value, feasibility and risk. Apply the risk gate.
  3. Select three. Aim for a mix: at least one content task, and at least one that involves an assistant or an automation, so that later modules build on your map.
  4. Complete a use-case canvas for each (template in Appendix D).
  5. Write a half-page summary: why these three, in what order, and what you would need from leadership.

A completed canvas, for reference.

SectionEntry for use case A: AI-assisted job descriptions
Process and pain pointAbout 40 job descriptions a year. Each takes roughly 90 minutes, style varies by author, and hiring managers often request two or three rounds of changes.
AI approachRecruiter completes a short brief with the hiring manager. A saved prompt template and the company voice card produce a draft. Mode: augment.
BenefitsAbout 60 minutes saved per document (40 hours a year); consistent structure; inclusive-language check built in.
RisksInvented requirements; biased wording; pay or legal statements that are wrong for the location.
GuardrailsNo candidate or employee data used. Recruiter verifies every requirement with the hiring manager. Pay range and legal statements inserted from an approved source, never generated. HR lead approves.
KPIsTime per job description: baseline 90 minutes, target 30. Revision rounds: baseline 2.5, target 1. Hiring-manager satisfaction: baseline to be measured, target 4 out of 5.
Owner and next stepRecruiting lead. Pilot on the next five openings and compare against the baseline.

Check your work. Does each use case have a named owner, a baseline, a target, at least two risks and a guardrail for each risk? Could a sceptical finance director follow your reasoning?

Draft your answer here. It saves automatically and appears in My playbook.
