Ground a policy summary
Use the fictional policy excerpt below. Write a prompt that produces a plain-language summary for new hires, using only this text. Then verify the output line by line.
Brightwater Logistics Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy, excerpt. Effective 1 January 2026.
- Eligibility. Regular full-time employees accrue PTO from their first day. Part-time employees scheduled for 20 or more hours per week accrue on a pro-rated basis. Temporary employees are not eligible.
- Accrual. Full-time employees accrue 10 hours of PTO per month (15 days per year) in years 1 to 3, and 13.33 hours per month (20 days per year) from year 4.
- Use. PTO may be used after 30 days of employment. Requests for three or more consecutive days should be submitted in the HR portal at least 14 days in advance.
- Carryover. Up to 40 hours of unused PTO carry over into the next calendar year. Hours above 40 are forfeited on 31 December, except where local law requires otherwise.
- Separation. Accrued, unused PTO is paid out at separation where required by law.
- Questions. Contact hr@brightwater.example.
Then ask the assistant, using only the excerpt: “How much sick leave do I get?” A well-grounded answer says the excerpt does not cover sick leave.
