Theme the comments
These twelve fictional warehouse comments answer “What one thing would make Brightwater a better place to work?” First code them yourself. Then run the thematic-analysis prompt and
compare. A suggested coding is in Appendix F. (A real survey would have hundreds of comments; twelve is for practice.)
- “My shifts get changed with one day’s notice. I can’t plan childcare.”
- “Nobody explains why the targets change. We find out when we’re already behind.”
- “The pay is fine but the warehouse down the road pays a dollar more an hour.”
- “The schedule comes out Friday night for Monday. That is not enough time.”
- “Two of the pallet jacks have been broken for weeks.”
- “I like my team. We look out for each other.”
- “My supervisor only talks to me when something is wrong.”
- “I was moved to nights for two weeks with no discussion.”
- “Overtime is announced the same day, and when I ask why, my supervisor shrugs.”
- “No raise in two years even though I train the new people.”
- “The scanners keep freezing and then we get blamed for slow picks.”
- “I’d stay if someone told us what the plan is. We hear everything through rumours.”
